HOW TO FIND MODELS - FOR FREE

MODELS! WHERE?

Finding models was one of the hardest parts of my degree, people are not as comfortable in front of a DSLR as they are their phones for a selfie.Looking for someone who has interesting facial features is a must! It will give you something interesting to work with. Depending on the model, certain make up looks may suit some more than others. So being able to play freely with make up on an interesting canvas is great! Using make up to enhance their features.

Working on a TFP basis and what TFP means???

TFP - trade for photos/time for print

Just simply drop someone a message saying that they have interested you because their work is great and what you love about it - and if youre looking for unpaid peeps then just tell them that your budget is tight but you will of course provide them will the photos either digitally or prints depending on what you decide. If someone isn't interested in unpaid they will either just not reply or tell you! Worse thing that can happen is they say no so you have nothing to lose!

I personally cover travel costs for those people whom i have contacted asking for them to work on my personal shoots. Its courteous.

PLATFORMS 1STLY - Model Mayhem Model mayhem is a is website for creative users looking to collaborate. Paid or unpaid.

First and foremost you need to create an account which is super easy. You just pop in your details and then select which creative you are, so for example I chose photographer. There is an option to browse for other creatives (literally everyone you would need in a team and more) and then the location needed and a radius of how far away they can be which is helpful!

You can search down to the most specific traits in a person/service so you know you're getting exactly what you need.

The only thing i'm not a fan of is that you can only send 5 messages a day, so gets hard if you're having a conversation!

2NDLY - no other than my fave social media - #Instagram

I basically searched and searched different hashtags to find people. some were more successful than others!

I kept finding that models who were looking for agency representation were using certain # for that agency, so i then searched that # and saw all the lovely faces looking for work! So check out model agencies and see what their # is for people to tag them etccccccc.

Searching: #modelLOCATION (as in whatever location of your choice) would work also but better for the bigger cities! e.g #modelmancester was my favourite and most useful. (also just realised that there is going to be a LOT of ###### in this section) (just realizing things - if you know you know)

3RDLY- Facebook groups!

Even though they are like gold dust - when you find one it's like a dream because you can see so many other creative people in one place and just chat with them. Get to working with other people. People will usually work with people they like so its good to talk to them and get to know them a little.

These groups are usually private, so when you work with an individual ask the if they are involved in any! If they are then ask them to add you to it! Opens your to a new platform of finding people to work with!

Usually once you find a good team you can use them more or less everytime unless someones busy! So build a repertoire with your team!

Best of luck and i hope this helped!

If you want more of an in depth post of how to approach people and how to deal with release forms just lemme know!
